Being a business leader or entrepreneur is a lonely road.
Have you ever felt like your path is foggy or have you been puzzled?
Do you procrastinate as a result of this behaviour?
Have you missed an opportunity because you were slow to act?
In today’s blog, I want to share with you the importance of collaboration. Collaboration is when two or more individuals work together toward a common purpose. Being an active member of a collaboration sees you involved in conversations, meetings and passively being open to listen and learn.
I am often asked why am I involved in so many network groups. I have found that when I surround myself with like minded business people that my ideas are heard, I receive feedback and often I gain an accountability buddy. Be aware of being in rooms that challenge you, ask you to step up and grow.
Research shows us that we are the average of the five people we hang out with. Humans are tribal, hence we like to belong, be loved and be connected. When we are in a group we will often change our behaviours, reactions and standards to mirror those of others.
We all know these groups. It maybe the local footy club, the parents at the soccer club and it can be ourselves when we are around different groups of people.
I can remember when I was a team leader, I would share a thought or an idea and there would be people around me who would give my their feedback, add to the idea and play devils advocate. On occasion people would share with me that they had spreadsheets, templates and other resources that I could adapt rather than having to reinvent the wheel, this is collaboration. When we share our resources, our knowledge we support each other to succeed.
Today I want to share with you that your ability to collaborate is only limited by your own thoughts, your belief in yourself and your willingness to grow. If we choose to stay in our comfort zone we are in fact hitting the cruise button. Growth only occurs when we are challenged.
Your confidence turns up shortly after you start moving, creating actions and making things happen.
So if you are waiting to gain more confidence before you get involved in networking or collaborating with others then you are limiting your success and that of your business.
